Fix Obamacare? Really?

It’s almost enough to make you feel sorry for the Democrats. Almost. Or just make you feel something — maybe contempt — for the sorry Democrats. Here they are about to spend a bundle of money on a nationwide research project, including focus groups, seeking “the right Obamacare message.”

Good luck with that, especially given the unwitting confusion revealed by the cited Politico article. Rep. Steve Israel, the New York Democrat who heads the Democratic Congressional Campaign committee,

like Pelosi, President Barack Obama, top White House officials and legions of progressive pundits believe that Obamacare will be a boon in the long run — even if it doesn’t feel that way right now.

“All of the polling that I am looking at in battleground districts with swing voters says that the average swing voter would prefer to fix and improve the Affordable Care Act than to repeal it,” Israel said. “That theory will be in the research project.”

“At the same time,” Politico reports a few paragraphs later after quoting some unnamed “key Democratic strategists,”  “a number of other disparate dynamics are surfacing. There is a fear that more and more will join Republicans to vote to change the law — a phenomenon that has recently worsened.”

Hmm, let’s see. Obamacare is popular and will become more so in the long run. Meanwhile, most people want to fix it. But “key Democratic strategists” are afraid of a problem — oops, make that a “disparate dynamic” — that has “worsened” — more and more Democrats actually voting to fix it.

This should be fun. I look forward to the silk purse message the “key Democratic strategists” will concoct out of the sow’s ear of Obamacare.

Say What?
