Age Discrimination In The Obama Administration

With “binders” for some peculiar reason having replaced Big Bird as the Obama campaign’s momentous issue of the week, the president bragged in Athens, Ohio, on Wednesday and repeated in Cedar Rapids on Thursday, “I’ve got to tell you, we don’t have to collect a bunch of binders to find qualified, talented, driven young women.”

Young women? What about “qualified, talented, driven” women who are not young?

What does the president not know, and how long and thoroughly has he not known, about the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), which makes it

unlawful to discriminate against a person because of his/her age with respect to any term, condition, or privilege of employment, including hiring, firing, promotion, layoff, compensation, benefits, job assignments, and training….

The ADEA applies to employers with 20 or more employees, including state and local governments. It also applies to employment agencies and labor organizations, as well as to the federal government.
