Unwitting Liberal Humor

Anyone who thinks contemporary liberalism, and its embodiment in the Obama administration, lacks humor need look no further than Drew Westen’s hilarious piece in the Washington Post yesterday to be reassured that Obama’s supporters can indeed be funny. True, Westen wasn’t trying to be funny, and it’s easy to picture liberals nodding sagely and somberly as they read him, but the clueless unwittingness of the humor just makes it even funnier.

There are too many howlers here for me to mention them all, and if I tried your tears of laughter would keep you from being able to read them anyway. Perhaps I can encourage you to read (or to try to read without breaking up) the whole thing by teasing you with what Westen lists as the first of the three Big Mistakes that will explain Obama’s loss if he loses: “Obama’s first mistake was inviting the Republicans to the table.”

Yes, you read that right. his biggest mistake was that “Obama, with his penchant for unilateral bipartisanship, refused to speak ill of what [the Republicans] had done.”

There are too many others to mention, but here’s one: which candidate do you think Westen believes is the most  “likely to say by accident what he really means”? Here’s a clue: it’s not Obama.

There is a silver lining to this cloud, however, at least for conservatives: Democrats seem to take this tripe seriously.

Say What?
