Losers Win (Or Do They?)

First, let me say that it is quite possible that the building Republican tsunami is so strong that it will carry into office politicians, like Christine O’Donnell, whose boat would have long since sunk in calmer seas. Possible, but at least as it appears this morning, not likely.

There is rich irony here. The Democrats’ chances of retaining their Senate majority have been bolstered because so many people dislike them so intensely. Angry voters in a few states have nominated the most extreme opposition candidates, who strike too many somewhat less angry voters as unqualified for high office.

But the irony doesn’t stop with Democrats winning because they are so disliked. The big loser if the Democrats retain their Senate majority, other than the American people, may well be Barack Obama, who will be deprived of the opportunity to run a Trumanesque campaign against a do-nothing Republican Congress in 2012.

Say What?
