No Longer A Wedge Issue?

A Washington Post editorial today asserts that affirmative action is no longer one of the “electoral wedge issues.”

Good. That means that the Senate Democrats will no longer object if the president nominates a judge or justice who believes racial preference is unconstitutional racial discrimination.

Doesn’t it?

It is utter nonsense that affirmative action is not a wedge issue. Here is DC, the blue voting Fairfax County voted to lower standards at Thomas Jefferson Science and Technology school because not enough black or hispanic were being admitted when admission was based strictly on merit. Whites were overwhelming against the lowering of the standards.

Also, if Quotas are ever put on a ballot, they will me voted down by an overwhelming majority.

The problem is the the Republicans at the national level so want the Hispanic vote and do not want to be called racist (even though the democrats will anyway), they the Republican Party will support racial and ethnic quotas.

Of course it isn’t a wedge issue. That’s why the Democrats are willing to support a measure to end it.

I think that Senate Democrats will find fault in everything the President does, period, whether it pertains to an “electoral wedge issue” or not.

But that’s just my humble opinion.
