Another Kind Of Diversity

An article in the Cairo newspaper Al-Ahram on the Kissinger commission says that if the commission does its job it will ask not “why they hate us” but what “we are doing to ‘them’ that makes ‘them’ hate us?” If it does this,

[t]he commission will draw the inescapable, and equally unpalatable conclusion, that American hegemony is reaching into every corner of the world, with globalisation as its instrument and long-term objective. And globalisation shows as little regard for the diversity of political regimes as it does for the individuality of nations.

Hmm, “diversity of nations.” Perhaps the University of Michigan’s case would have been stronger if it had given preferences to Saddam-sympathizing Muslims.

Say What?
